Stupid laws, rulings and more democrats at work

The Hope Cove coastguard team in South Devon, England, defied orders not to take a seventeen foot inflatable to sea, when they saw a 13 year-old being swept out to sea by a rip current. The boat had recently been repaired and was awaiting a seaworthiness inspection. Despite battling through waves to rescue the teenager, bosses at the maritime and coastguard Agency were furious on their return and confiscated the boat. All the volunteers who manned the boat to save the teenager have now been threatened with disciplinary action.

Earlier I told you about the UN telling the British to be more flexible to Muslim’s feelings. Lose the piggy banks, quit selling pork and pork products, etc. Now comes word from London that the UN Human Rights Commission says Britain’s provisions under the Terrorism Act of 2006 are too broad and vague which could infringe on freedom of expression.

Under the law, people convicted of encouraging terrorism face up to seven years in jail. The UN Commission says “that’s not fair.”

In Garden Grove, California, (which is in Orange County) water is a precious commodity. So much so, some residents have intentionally let their lawns go brown based on Governor Schwarzenegger’s plea to conserve. But now, the city says homeowners will be fined for letting lawns go brown.

Homeowner Jean Orban thought she’d solved the problem by installing artificial lawn. Her water bill has dropped to about the price of a bottle of water off the shelf at Safeway. The Orange County Water district offers rebates to those who install artificial turf and Orban was about to receive a $300 dollar rebate.

That is, until the city of Garden Grove pointed to an ordinance banning artificial lawns. Those that have installed artificial lawns have been warned they will be fined. Because of the ban, Orban was denied her $300 rebate. Yep…some days, ya’ just can’t win!
