UPDATE: A local judge set bond at $1 million each for two women arrested Friday for burning a 2-year-old with hot water.
Latasha S. Spencer, 21, and Krystal D. Swift, 23, appeared Saturday in Rock Island County Circuit Court where the judge set bond. They each are charged with aggravated battery of a child, which carries up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
The investigation began after officers were dispatched to an address in the 400 block of 15th Avenue at 1:08 p.m. Spencer was identified as the mother.
The child was taken to Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island, and then transferred to University Hospitals, Iowa City, police said. An update on the child’s condition was unavailable Saturday.
PREVIOUS STORY: Rock Island police arrested two women Friday for an incident earlier in the day in which a child under the age of 2 was burned by hot water. One of the two women arrested was the child’s mother.
The child was taken to Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island, and then transferred to University Hospitals, Iowa City, Police Capt. Scott Harris, said. The child’s condition is unknown.
Harris said the investigation began after officers were dispatched to an address in the 400 block of 15th Avenue at 1:08 p.m.
Arrested were the child’s mother, Latasha S. Spencer, 21, and Krystal D. Swift, 23. The two women are charged with aggravated battery of a child, which is a Class X felony under Illinois law that carries a prison sentence of six to 30 years.
