13 arrested on illegal immigration labor charge

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have arrested 13 individuals suspected of working illegally at a pallet manufacturing company located in Homedale. The agency, according to a press release, claims the workers, employed by Specialty Inc., Wood Products, will be placed in removal proceedings for violating U.S. immigration law. Those taken into custody, including 10 men and three women, are Mexican nationals, ICE alleges.

ICE initiated the investigation after receiving a tip that undocumented workers might be employed at the wood products company. The agency says a subsequent investigation revealed some workers may have secured their employment by using false Social Security numbers and other counterfeit identity documents.

The release states the owner of Specialty Inc., Wood Products, is cooperating with authorities on the investigation.

Each worker was interviewed by agents to determine if they had any medical, care-giver or other humanitarian issues.
