Illegal immigrants’ kids

Submitted by Rick Honcho on Thursday, March 6 2008No Comment

The lead article on the front page of The Tennessean today is “Bills control college future of illegal immigrants’ kids.”From reading this I understand that both the federal government and the Tennessee legislature are considering legislation as to whether or not children of illegal immigrants can go to college here. It seems that the Tennessee legislature is leaning toward barring those students, while the federal government might pass legislation allowing them to go to college and receive in-state tuition.

Some of the students from Nashville “are going on a lobbying trip to Washington to advocate for education opportunities for illegal immigrants.” The girl featured in the article arrived in this country with her parents when she was 8. Her parents initially had visas, but they expired, so now the family is here illegally.

Why aren’t those who are in our country illegally deported? They know where these people live because the school has the student’s address.
