Losers of 2007
I figured that every other website has a list of winners & losers of 2007. I will just point out some of my favorite losers. This is not an all inclusive list, there are so many more losers out there…these are just my favorite pieces of crap.
Loser: Al Gore. Al Gore has accepted the Nobel Peace Prize and called on humanity to mobilize at once against the dangers of a changing climate. Gore was awarded the prize for sounding the alarm over global warming and spreading awareness on how to counteract it. BUT…Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES). The former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home. Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006. In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.
Loser: Democrats. They won the battle, but seem to be losing the war when it comes to reversing Bush administration domestic and foreign policies, particularly in Iraq — the one issue that drove voters to put Dems in office last year. Polls suggest voters are fed up with both parties, and while there is a good chance the next president will be a Democrat, it is unclear whether he or she will have a supportive Congress.

Loser: Al Sharpton. The feds are investigating whether the 2004 presidential candidate overestimated the amount of money raised during his run for the White House in order to get federal matching funds. He also faces allegations of tax fraud involving his nonprofit National Action Network and several of his for-profit operations. Maybe the feds will take the wind out of his racially biased circuses that he calls civil rights marches.
Loser: Marion Jones. Could there be any worse fate for an Olympic level athlete than to be stripped of their statistics and medals? Yes, there could be worse things. Just ask former Olympic track star Marion Jones which is worse, losing your medals or being forced to tell your mother you have to sell her house. Another Loser makin Mama proud.
Loser: Eddie Murphy. His chances of taking home the best supporting actor Oscar for his great showing in “Dreamgirls” were likely diminished by his appearance in the mean-spirited “Norbit.” His image took a beating too after he dumped Spice Girl Melanie Brown, for Tracey Edmonds — and then disputed Brown’s claim that he was her baby’s daddy. (Tests later showed he was).
Loser: Jay-Z. Rapper Shawn Carter, better known as Jay-Z, announced he is stepping down as president of Def Jam records when his contract expires at year’s end to pursue “new challenges†— which in showbiz terms usually means things are not going as well as one would like. His most recent CD, “American Gangster,” sold just 784,000 copies, compared to 1.5 million for 2006’s “Kingdom Come.” Perhaps he’s losing the golden touch?
Loser: Michael Vick. Let’s face it: He’s become the poster boy for careers ruined by dumb mistakes. The Atlanta Falcons quarterback, who had been one of the highest-paid players in the NFL, was sentenced to 23 months in prison for his role in financing a dogfighting ring and helping to torture and kill dogs that did not fight aggressively. He and his three co-defendants also still face state felony charges that could add up to an additional five years in prison. Oh, and the Falcons want the bonus money back from his 10-year, $130 million contract. He is in default on a $1.3 million bank loan and two other banks have filed suits seeking repayment of $4.5 million in loans and lines of credit. And his house in Virginia, where the dogfighting operation was based, is on the auction block. The head of the Atlanta NAACP couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about, since he compared dogfighting to hunting deer, which is perfectly acceptable. But best of all was Vick’s former teammate who appeared at a recent game wearing a “Free Michael Vick†shirt. Help me out on this one. He pleaded “guiltyâ€, and, contrary to the sentiment of some in the NAACP, this has nothing to do with race.
Loser: Barry Bonds. He was cut by the Giants after the season ended and in November, and he was indicted on four counts of perjury and one count of obstruction of justice for telling a grand jury in 2003 that he never knowingly took illegal performance-enhancing drugs. He was named 103 times in the Mitchell Report.
Loser: The whole damn Spears Family.
Losers: Sen. Larry Craig. A man who consistently voted against gay interests, but turns out to be not just gay but the kind of gay who likes to get it in public restrooms. Don’t people like Larry Craig and Ted Haggard and Mark Foley prove that being gay really is a hard-wired thing — not, as the conservatives always claim, a “lifestyle choice”? If anyone could choose not to have gay sex, it would be these guys, since their whole careers are built on not having gay sex.
Loser: Oprah. Less than a year after Oprah Winfrey’s tearful opening of her South African “Leadership Academy,†she returned to the campus begging forgiveness from her 152 students and their parents amid shocking claims of sexual and physical abuse.
