MLS in Seattle

Submitted by Rick Honcho on Wednesday, November 14 2007No Comment

FINALLY!!!! It was an awesome day to be a Seattle soccer fan.

There was a buzz going through the packed George and Dragon Pub. The place was full a good half hour before Drew Carey arrived to announce his participation as owner in Seattle MLS.

Fans greeted Carey as a hero when he arrived. Quickly he was wearing an Emerald City Supporters scarf.

When he finally made his way past reporters and cameras and into the pub he was met with more reporters and cameras.

Carey spoke with ease about his love of soccer and his belief that Seattle would not only do well in Major League Soccer, but excel both in the stands and on the pitch.

Carey talked about how he became involved with Seattle MLS. The majority owner, Hollywood movie mogul Joe Roth, had convinced him to join over one of those famous Hollywood lunches. Carey actually postponed a trip to the doctor with a broken arm to meet Roth.

Details were not made clear, but Carey was sold on the idea when Roth told him Seattle MLS would like to use ‘the Barcelona model’ of letting fans own part of the club and have voting shares. I am sure we’ll hear more about that soon.

After a short visit Carey was whisked off to do other interviews and appear on Monday Night Football, being played tonight in the Emerald City.

You can even suggest a name for the new team and reserve season tickets for 2009.
